What Is Herkimer Quartz?
Share
Clear quartz can look almost empty at first.
Look closer and you may find dark marks, fine lines, cloudy areas or other details inside the stone.
These natural inclusions are part of what makes each piece different.
At ORIN, we use Pakistani quartz with a clear, crystalline appearance and naturally occurring internal inclusions in Crest 01.
The Name “Herkimer Quartz”
The name “Herkimer Quartz” is often used in the jewelry trade to describe clear quartz with a Herkimer-like crystalline appearance.
Herkimer Diamonds, strictly speaking, are quartz crystals from Herkimer County, New York. They are not diamonds. The name refers to their exceptional clarity and naturally double-terminated crystal form.
Similar quartz occurs in other parts of the world, including Pakistan. The material used in Crest 01 is sourced from Pakistan.

What Makes Pakistani Quartz Interesting?
One of the things we like about Pakistani quartz is what happens inside it.
Clear areas can sit next to dark or cloudy inclusions, creating a contrast that changes as the stone catches the light.
Some Pakistani quartz specimens are known to contain fluid or hydrocarbon-related inclusions. These can appear as dark, brown, grey or cloudy forms within the quartz.
They are natural features of the stone, not something added to the surface.
Are Inclusions a Flaw?
Not necessarily.
With natural stone, complete uniformity is not the goal.
Two beads from the same material can differ in clarity, tone and internal features. One may be almost transparent; another may have a much stronger inclusion.
We keep these differences rather than trying to make every stone look identical.
For us, they are part of the material.
Why We Chose It for Crest 01
Crest 01 started with the contrast between clear quartz and dark internal marks.
We added one Nanhong Agate accent and gold-finished sterling silver to interrupt the sequence with color and metal.
The quartz keeps the bracelet visually light. The inclusions give it depth. The red accent breaks the rhythm, while the gold adds warmth against the silver.
The design is built around these differences rather than hiding them.

Natural Stone Means Variation
Because the quartz is natural, no two Crest 01 bracelets will look exactly the same.
Clarity, inclusions, tone and small internal features will vary from one stone to another.
The final selection and arrangement may therefore differ slightly from the photographs while preserving the original design and proportion.
This is simply part of working with natural material.
